Sensation: Ocean of White 2013

I have a special attachment to the sea because I am a scuba diver and before moving to Canada, weekends were always spent at some part of the sea scuba diving...

SENSATION: Ocean of White

That sounded to me like a combination of two things I love the most. Partying and the underwater world.

The path to the venue was circuitous, one concrete ramp after the other which built up the suspense even more.

Finally...after the last ramp...the space opens to a majestic scene of glowing Portuguese Man of War jellies suspended above with their tentacles cascading like luminous silk threads. White globes were scattered all over the place like deep sea pearls.

People surrounded the lighted set up at the middle as if it were a god and they, the followers.

Then..balls everywhere!

I am a sucker for lights and overall design of the stage and the entire area. I love a good production. Being an aesthete, I enjoy being visually stimulated. This has the best indoor set up Ive seen so far. It absolutely blew me away. And then you have artists like Fedde le Grande and Eric Prydz who took everything to a different level.

Here are some more insane snapshots of the whole show. Enjoy!

LIGHT IT UP! :)

Bal en Blanc 2013 Montreal, Quebec

People say that the best parties in Canada are in Montreal.

Bal en Blanc is an annual Easter house/trance party where people come dressed in white!

Palais du congres is a huge venue that was turned into an ultimate party place for this event. My expectations were not only met, they were exceeded by leaps and bounds.

Let's start with the lineup shall we?

The place was divided into two parts: the house stage and the trance stage. There was no literal physical division but for some reason the acoustics were excellent such that at the venue's midpoint, if you take a step further to the right or left, you would hear more and more of that side. Maybe that was a little to complicated to describe. Think of it as a It could also be my imagination.

Two things about Montreal:
1) they dress up over the top!
2) the guys can dance really really well. Hips and all!

David Guetta!

Massage? Not a bad idea. They were the cash cow of the event.

Co-ed washrooms. Hey! It's Montreal!

Veld 2012 - Year ONE

VELD is another 2-day outdoor EDM fest in Downsview Park, Toronto where artists from all over the world come to perform. This was its first year and the lineup was amazing!

Outdoors, there were two stages right beside each other but did not play simultaneously. It was just one or the other. The indoor stage was inside a tent, the Bacardi tent to be exact. Music inside the tent was more the tech trance type.

This was the official lineup from the site:

Personal favorites: Deadmau5, Chris Lake, Avicii, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate, Ben Gold

 Pretty.

 Man on a man.
Yeah! I thought they stopped making these after the 90s! Jane fonda!

 Womanwich.

The festival was a lot better than the pics. I don't think I gave it justice. This was an amazing first year event and I cant wait for the next!

Digital dreams 2012 @ Toronto, Canada

It was a 2-day event for which I went to one day of. There were three large stages with a couple of small ones catering to niche house listeners. One stage was more hiphop-ish while the main stage played the mainstream EDM so to speak. I was in for Kaskade of course, the rest were icing atop my Kascake. (boo!)

Unfortunately for the first day goers, Afrojack was not able to play then. Fortunately for us, the second day people, we got to watch him play. Alesso did well! So young yet so good. Personally, Im not a fan of Major Lazer (though he has this hit song that i hear a lot and it's ok) but a lot of people walked out on him saying Booo! reggae! boo!

For my first outdoor event, I had a lot of fun. It was just a bummer that it ended so early (park regulations). Why is this my first outdoor music fest? Well, back home, DJs did not come all together to perform. They came one by one, performing in indoor venues where they usually hold concerts and sports games.

Ive been listening to EDM since 1998 and back then we all called it house, techno, electro...the like. I know there is a distinction but im no music guru so do not expect scholastic criticisms and reviews.

1998... time flies. :)

So below are some decent pictures I took. Enjoy!

 Sunbathing. Or not. :)
The Manwich. Perhaps it is safe to say that it is any man's dream to be in a situation like this..and then some. I love these twins. They wore teeny tiny bikinis and furry warmers. I got my inspiration to make outfits from these two.
 Blue steel.
Of course no outdoor music fest would be complete without BEEFCAKES!

 An ocean of people. Amazing.

 I'm loving the visuals.
Ahhhh the golden hour - Sunset.

Bromance. Men on other men's shoulders.

Blow up zebras being passed around.

I was too far away but Kaskade's light show was too much for my phone cam to handle. He is my favorite artist of all time. I've been an avid house listener since 1998 and he is the only artist I diligently followed. I missed him twice way back home, where my friend did the opening acts for him. It was surreal to finally see him play. I think I cried a little. haha!
